My name is Bala Commerford. I’m a Lead Designer and Art Director with 15 years of agency and in-house experience shaping high-impact design across Australia, Europe, and global markets.
Working alongside world-class agencies like FutureBrand, AKQA, and Stink Studios, I’ve led creative direction and design for iconic brands. I get excited when sharp strategy, clever concepts, and thoughtful craft meet, whether that’s building complete visual identity systems, directing large-scale OOH campaigns, or designing digital experiences and bespoke packaging.
From 2018 to 2026, I was living and working in Amsterdam, delivering high-visibility work across agency and in-house environments for the EU, UK, and US markets. Key projects included concepting a Tokyo 2020 Olympics campaign for Unilever, leading global adidas rollouts such as the adiClub refresh and various member-focused campaigns, executing a massive Oxford Circus and wider London takeover for Under Armour, shaping the 2026 visual language for food giant KFC in the Dutch market, building a US luxury hotel brand from scratch, and refreshing retail environments for McLaren owned e-bike giant VanMoof across all their EU markets.
Prior to my time in Europe, I built a strong foundation in Australia working with agencies such as Weave in Melbourne, alongside Better Happy and Liquid Ideas in Sydney. A major highlight was working in-house with Four Pillars Gin during their formative early years, helping shape their brand identity across all touchpoints, from packaging and distillery wayfinding to creative strategy for their 'Made by Gin' range ahead of their eventual acquisition by Lion. My Australian agency work during this period also included shaping new visual languages for Angove and Innocent Bystander, building the Hopes End brand and bespoke packaging from scratch, and crafting typography for an AGDA-finalist video campaign with Weave in 2017.
Now back in Sydney, I’m ready to put that experience to work on home soil.
